Looking at existing road trips across the continent, comparing elements such as journey length, social media popularity, and the best time to visit, they came up with the ultimate top five list of European road trips.
Globally recognised as a great road trip destination, Ireland welcomes thousands of visitors every year taking to the road. So, it comes as no surprise that Euro Car Parks has named one Irish route the best European road trip.
Drive along the west coast of Ireland ‒ plenty to see along the way
Taking you from the Inishowen Peninsula in County Donegal to Mizen Head in County Cork, the 2,500 km (1,600 miles) Wild Atlantic Way is the Irish route named the best European road trip.
Offering up some of Ireland’s most iconic landmarks, from castles to countryside, cliffs to coastlines, the Wild Atlantic Way is a bucket list must for those visiting Ireland.
Suggesting a two to three-week trip along the Wild Atlantic Way, Euro Car Parts raves about the beauty of this stunning coastal stretch.
One factor that contributed to the Wild Atlantic Way’s number one spot is the length of the route. Coming in at 2,500 km (1,600 miles), visitors have plenty to see and do along the way.
Social media data also showed that the route already proves incredibly popular among visitors. Boasting an incredible 48,500,000 mentions on Tiktok and Instagram, the route has a huge presence online.
Best road trips in Europe ‒ you’ll want to make plenty of stops along the way
The Wild Atlantic Way was not the only Irish route to be named one of the best European road trips. Rather, the Causeway Coastal Route, which crosses from County Antrim to County Derry in Northern Ireland, also ranked fifth on the list.
Just behind the Wild Atlantic Way to claim second place is The Transfăgărășan Road Trip in Romania. Starting in Cartisoara and ending in Boscov, the route was once named the “world’s best road” by Top Gear’s Jeremy Clarkson.
Just across the water from Ireland, Scotland’s North Coast 500 ranked in third place. Meanwhile, Furka Pass in Switzerland claimed fourth.
