Care for a truly unique trip to Ireland? Here’s your ticket!
For those of you looking to break the mould and experience something different on your next trip to Ireland, we have the solution.
This alternative type of accommodation has caught the attention of holiday-goers planning trips to or in the Emerald Isle and with its unique charm, we can see why.
The Wicklow Head Lighthouse is available to rent, via Airbnb (an online hospitality, experience and accommodation rental site), from the Irish Landmark Trust, and with its dreamy coastal setting, this unique stay is bucket list worthy for sure.
The Background
The lighthouse, which is located in County Wicklow, was acquired by The Irish Landmark Trust, a non-profit organization, in a bid to make it self-catering-friendly for vacationers on the Emerald Isle.
The Wicklow Head Lighthouse was built in 1781 and sits in cinematic surroundings offering 360-degree views of stunning pastoral, post-card worthy settings and the Irish Sea.
Located in the “garden of Ireland” (a colloquial term for County Wicklow), there are tonnes of leading tourist sites nearby, ranging from Powerscourt Estate to Glendalough, scenic walks and endless opportunities for adventure.
The Listing
This unique Airbnb offers something a little different than what usually pops up in your average search results.
Its listing describes the lighthouse as having “six octagonal rooms carefully constructed in the void that existed within the tower when it was first taken on by Irish Landmark.”
“The arched windows set into walls which are a meter or more thick offer stunning views out to the Irish Sea and the surrounding countryside: all making this property a most unique place to stay.”
The Details
The property is fit to accommodate four guests in total. There are two bedrooms – both of which have double beds – and one bathroom.
A separate WC (toilet) is located on the ground floor. Also to note, a cot for an infant under the age of two years can be provided upon request.
The lighthouse has been renovated to the highest standards while retaining its original charms. It has been fitted and kitted with all contemporary necessities such as a kitchen (with all the obvious appliances), a comfortable living room, and most importantly – stunning scenic views.
It is important to note that the kitchen is accessed via 109 steps (as it is located on the top floor), so may not be appropriate for small children, the elderly or those less mobile.
Bookings can be made directly through the Airbnb website, but given the recent surge in popularity for this unique stay on the Wicklow coastline, booking well in advance is advised.
