Americans are raving over these five Irish shows.

There are some recent Irish TV shows, as well as some slightly older ones, that Americans can’t get enough of today.
These shows are all well loved at home, and America is no different. From crime dramas and comedies to heart bleeding romances, here are the five shows Americans are obsessed with.
5. The Fall (2013-2016) – trending again in the US

Even though The Fall ended a decade ago, the show is trending at the moment on TikTok because Americans who missed it the first time around are now watching it on BritBox.
Also, who doesn’t love a bit of Gillian Anderson, so we can guarantee many new fans of hers are checking out her IMDB to catch up on her catalogue.
Gillian Anderson plays an English detective brought over to Belfast to try and catch a serial killer, Paul Spectre, played by Jamie Dornan.
Even if you’ve watched it before, it’s one of those shows that so good, you’ll be happy to watch it over from the start. Take this as your reminder!
4. Derry Girls (2018-2022) – Americans never stopped loving it

Derry Girls is one of the most popular and widely streamed Irish comedy series in America. All three series’ are available to watch on American Netflix, so the people of the US are taking full advantage.
Lisa McGee’s comedy show follows the lives of four Irish teenagers (and the wee English fella) in Derry during the 1990s in the lead up to the Good Friday Agreement and the end of the Troubles in Northern Ireland.
The show is loved on home soil and around the world, so it’s no wonder the Americans are loving it right now.
3. Normal People (2020) – the best Irish romance story

Even though it was just one season, it’s one we’ll never forget. Normal People is available to stream on Hulu for those wishing to watch in America, and many are.
If you want to watch one of the most beautiful displays of the complications of love on screen, watch Normal People. This show single-handedly sky-rocketed Paul Mescal’s career.
The chemistry between he and Daisy Edgar-Jones is something so rare to find these days, it’s a wonder they didn’t fall in love in real life.
You could watch these 12 episodes over and over again and let the story wrap you up like a big cosy blanket. You might just shed a few tears on said blanket.
There are several romantic filming locations all over Ireland you can actually visit to get a taste of the show.
2. Kin (2021-2027) – an excellent Irish crime show

The makers of Kin have really kept us on ice waiting for the third season of the show. The first season aired in 2021, with the second following shortly after in 2023.
Rumour has it that the shows third season is set for release in 2027, with filming currently taking place in Dublin.
The show centres around a fictional Dublin crime family, the Kinsella’s, although many viewers compare the show’s gangland war to real-life organised crime and specific families in Ireland.
An all-Irish cast (with the exception of Charlie Cox) makes for an intense, thrill-ride that has clearly piqued the interest of Americans! They’re probably waiting in anticipation for the third season as much as we are.
1. Bad Sisters (2022-?) – a taste of real Irish family life

Finally, the last Irish TV show Americans are obsessed with right now is Bad Sisters. If Sharon Horgan is involved in something, you know it’s going to be good. Better still if she’s acting in it.
Bad Sisters captures the quintessential Irish humour perfectly. It’s not forced or cheesy, it’s just real conversations and interactions you could see happening with your own family or people in your town at home.
The second season concluded around Christmastime in 2024, and rumours have it that the show has reached its conclusion.
We think the show has probably reached its peak, but we’ll see if they decided to draw it out for a third season or not. People in America can stream the show on Apple TV+.
