Reddit is one of the most savage places on earth when it comes to sharing opinions, and a handful of Irish counties are under fire.
Ireland has an abundance of exciting, beautiful counties full of culture, green landscapes, and friendly folks.
Just like anywhere else in the world, though, Ireland also has its fair share of boring spots, too. When you search for the most boring county in Ireland on Reddit, local residents aren’t holding back their opinions.
The most boring county in Ireland – according to Reddit
Right off the bat, poor County Longford takes the crown as the most boring county in Ireland, according to this Reddit thread.
One Reddit user responded to the thread title question, which was “Which is the most boring county in Ireland, and why?”, by saying “Longford, I don’t need to elaborate any further. The answer is Longford”. 203 liked this response in agreement.
However, while many people jumped to agree with this answer, others came to the defence of Longford, and more offered up other Irish counties to take the heinous crown.
The defence of Longford – throw another county under the bus
One Reddit user quickly jumped to Longford’s defence. Speaking about Longford Town and what to do there, they wrote, “It has improved so much, and it is genuinely lovely to see it happening.
“Lovely venues like Pig Market Lane (just look at it online), Athena and Fabiani have sprung up, as have big artistic and music events held at the Barracks.
“The town has old favourites like Valentine’s (again, you are encouraged to view it online). It has a really lovely central park, with a nature reserve. You have beautiful bog walks with all manner of flora and fauna and ancient wood to see. You have an excellent, long canal walk and cycle route too”.
In contrast to those voting for Longford as the most boring county in Ireland, many others came in to throw County Roscommon’s name in the ring.
One person said, “Roscommon in my opinion is the most boring. Nothing to do there in general”, which garnered dozens of likes.
Other counties in the firing line – Carlow and Laois
While the top two names that cropped up in this Reddit thread were Longford and Roscommon, others went for a handful of other counties.
For example, one user wrote, “Imagine being from Carlow”. Someone else in agreement wrote, “Why has no one mentioned Carlow? Surely it is a contender for most boring county. Like what actually happens there other?”.
County Laois was another name that cropped up several times. One person said, “A friend asked me to name the 32 counties of Ireland and I confidently rattled off 31 of them in about 3 minutes.
“I even remembered Longford (thank you Centre Parcs). I think I gave up after another 15 minutes. I have nothing against the place, but from this recent experience, the answer is clearly LAOIS. A complete irrelevance”.
They even ended their statement by throwing shade at Carlow, saying Laois “should be merged with one of its other pointless neighbours like Carlow”.
