Luxury five-star hotel The Europe Hotel & Resort in Killarney, County Kerry, has received the Independent’s Reader Travel Award for ‘Ireland’s Best Hotel’ for 2023.
As voted for by readers, nominations were open to all readers in Ireland and overseas. Voting closed on 20 November 2022.
Readers simply entered their nominations for each category, along with any comments and reasons for their picks.
Ireland’s Best Hotel for 2023 – The Europe Hotel & Resort
The Europe Hotel & Resort is a luxury five-star establishment in Ireland’s southwest situated on Killarney’s largest lake, Lough Lein.
The resort opened in 1961, adding a 50,000 sq. ft spa in 2008. The Europe is one of the most unique spa hotels that Killarney has to offer. The views of the surrounding lakes are unparalleled.
The Irish Independent readers said that the Killarney five-star offers “next level hospitality”.
They said that the hotel is “high-class without being snotty…”. One reader said, “Once you cross the door, it’s instant relaxation and calm.”
The Irish Independent’s Reader Travel Awards – how the winners are decided
Picks for the best hotel and many other awards come down to the Irish Independent’s readers.
Once the nominations are closed, top nominees are tallied, and expert judges adjudicate, choosing the final winners and runners-up for each category.
A number of incredible prizes are up for grabs as a result of putting forward your nominations for the awards.
These include a four-star holiday to Spain’s Costa del Sol, including flights and accommodation, or maybe a two-night spa break with breakfast and a gourmet evening meal with a signature spa treatment and many more.
The lists of winners and runners-up will be published on Independent.ie and in Weekend magazine on 21 January, so keep your eyes peeled.
As picked by readers – real opinions, no critics
The awards offer readers the chance to be transparent and honest with their opinions on the best of the best in Ireland and beyond.
Last year’s awards were largely restricted to Ireland due to limitations on travel caused by Covid-19, but as international travel has returned, the awards have too with a larger scope.
Pól Ó Conghaile of the Independent wrote, “Our Reader Travel Awards put you front and centre. No other awards take so much time to canvas your opinions and review your feedback.
“You share the loves and hates of real holidaymakers; not PR or marketing teams. It’s an unfiltered view, and I love reading your comments”.
