Ireland, in general, is cloaked in myth and folklore, with many creepy tales to be told about locations all around the island. One of the most infamous, however, is Loftus Hall in County Wexford.

According to legend, it was a dark and stormy night in 1766 when a man arrived at the door of Loftus Hall seeking shelter. The man was invited inside and, over time, the daughter of the house, Anne, fell in love with him.

One day, the pair were playing cards together, and Anne leaned down under the table to pick up a card she had dropped. It was then that she looked across the table and noticed the stranger had a cloven hoof.

Screaming in fear, Anne shot up from the table, and it was at this moment that the stranger transformed into the devil himself before shooting up through the roof of the house.

Almost 300 years on, hospitality group Press Up has ambitious plans to turn the haunted hall into a luxury hotel. As Ireland’s tourism industry continues to boom, accommodation across the island is in high demand.

With plans to have the hotel open to visitors by the end of the summer, Press Up explains that they are working hard to keep most of the building’s original features in place.

According to the early plans, guests will get to enjoy comfortable four-poster beds, specially-designed furniture, and panoramic sea views. Not to mention the chance to sight a ghost or two…

With current plans focusing on opulent rooms and an onsite restaurant and cocktail bar, developers hope to open the hotel in the summer of 2023. However, they won’t be stopping there.

According to Independent.ie, Press Up has a five-year plan in place. This includes the extension of the hotel to include a pool, gym, and conference and event facilities.

They are also planning to build cottages on the grounds around the original home to offer some more unique accommodation. So, if you’re planning a trip to Wexford, would you book a room at Loftus Hall?
