The Giant’s Causeway in Co. Antrim was honoured recently as it was named one of the most bucket-list-worthy landmarks to visit in the UK.
The Giant’s Causeway ranked in the top ten most popular bucket list landmarks in the UK according to a survey by Comparethemarket. It found itself in the eighth position on the list for 2023.
The Giant’s Causeway also had the distinction of being the only landmark from Northern Ireland to make the top ten list of brilliant UK landmarks that should be on everyone’s bucket list.

The Giant’s Causeway comprises up to 40,000 massive black basalt columns sticking out of the sea. The area – not far from the Bushmills Distillery – is steeped in Irish mythology and is a top-rated tourist attraction.
It attracts over approximately one million visitors annually. It also has the distinction of being Northern Ireland’s only UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The breathtaking landscape was formed by volcanic activity, which occurred approximately 50-60 million years ago.
Today, the County Antrim landmark has a visitors’ centre that provides interactive exhibitions, audio guides, and excellent guided walking tours and remains one of the best things to do in Antrim.

The top ten most famous landmarks in the UK – brilliant places to visit
To determine the official rankings of the study, researchers analysed the volume of Instagram hashtags. They also considered Google searches for over 35 of the UK’s most popular landmarks.
Six English and three Scottish sites make up the remaining nine places.
The English landmarks include Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, Stonehenge, Durdle Door, Chatsworth House, and Hadrian’s Wall. Scotland’s Windsor Castle, Loch Ness, and Loch Lomond complete the list.
Concerning the Giant’s Causeway, researchers found over 331,018 images under the hashtag #giantscauseway and over 201,000 searches a month.
