When it comes to planning a wedding, there are many big decisions. Perhaps one of the biggest of all being the choice of venue for your special day.
Made-to-order jewellers Austen & Blake undertook new research to aid with this monumental decision. Read on to discover the best county in Ireland to get married.
The purpose of the study – ranking counties on various factors
Austen & Blake’s in-house expert Anthony French explained the reasons for doing the study. He said, “By creating this campaign, we hope to take a little bit of the pressure off of couples trying to make one of the biggest decisions about their wedding day.
“A lot goes into choosing where to tie the knot, which is why we included seven different criteria. Those we consider some of the most important aspects of a dream wedding location.”
Each county in Ireland was ranked on various factors. These included the number of official wedding venues, local catering services, and Instagram geotags. Local florists, average temperature, transport options, and hotels were also considered.
Dublin named the best county in Ireland to get married ‒ a conclusive result
The study’s results were quite conclusive in finding Dublin to be the best county in Ireland to get married. The county came in first place in six of the seven categories.
The counties that ranked in the top five were as follows: Dublin, Cork, Galway, Kerry, and Antrim.
The Irish capital boasts an impressive 84 official wedding venues, 1493 hotels, and seven different transport options. So, it easily outranked every other county in six out of seven categories.
The category of average temperature was the only one the county failed to finish first in. You may not be surprised to discover that Waterford in the sunny southeast ranked first in this category.
Reflections on the findings of the study – an interesting correlation
Reflecting on the results, French referenced that the majority of the top five counties that made the list had quite large populations.
He also highlighted that while Dublin was named the best county in Ireland to get married, as long as you are surrounded by your friends and family, your wedding day will be special no matter the venue.
French explained, “Looking at the results, it seems that the counties with the largest populations came out on top. Four out of the top five sit in the top five for the highest populated Irish counties.
“What is interesting is that Antrim, currently the 16th most populated county in Ireland, made it into the top five over some of the other more populated counties, proving that bigger isn’t always better!”
He concluded, “Of course, choosing your wedding venue is a very personal decision. And what might be important to one person might not sit as high on your priority list.
“So, whilst our data shows that Dublin offers up the most options for a number of criteria, other counties might be better suited for other reasons.
“As long as you are surrounded by your favourite people, in the grand scheme of things, where you get married doesn’t really matter.”
