Dublin’s Temple Bar, recognisable for its striking red facade, has ranked among the company’s list of places that left tourists feeling like they were “overpaying for underwhelming attractions”.
By analysing tourists’ reviews and online data, the global eSIM company came up with the ultimate ranking of destinations that just didn’t live up to expectations.

The iconic Irish pub ranked third on Nomad eSIM’s list of the biggest tourist traps in the world. It received over 687 tourist reviews calling it a “tourist trap”.
People head to Dublin to experience authentic Irish nightlife, lively trad music sessions, and flowing pints. However, many who stepped into Temple Bar left with nothing more than a feeling of disappointment.
They explained how many visitors felt the pub “doesn’t live up to the hype”, with countless complaints about sky-high prices, rowdy stag parties, and a lack of authentic Irish culture.
One reviewer simply called it “overcrowded, overpriced, and overrated”. Still, others had a more positive view, with one reviewer writing, “This is, yes, a tourist trap… but the Best U will ever fall into!”
The world’s biggest tourist traps – crowds, costs, and cringe
Nomad eSIM named 49 other destinations alongside the Irish pub on their list of the world’s biggest tourist traps. Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco and Wall Drug in South Dakota took joint first place with 1,000 reviews mentioning the term “tourist trap”.
Meanwhile, Barcelona’s Las Ramblas claimed second with 826 reviews. Checkpoint Charlie in Berlin ranked fourth, with 681 reviews, followed by the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, with 539 reviews.
On a positive note, Temple Bar was the only Irish attraction to make the list. Thus, highlighting the authentic beauty of the rest of the island.
