This year, the list ranked an area in Dublin, Ireland, as one of the coolest places to live in the world. Not bad, eh?
What it takes to make it to the top – culture, fun, food, and community
Surveying more than 27,000 residents around the world, participants were asked where the best place to live in the world is. This was graded on terms of culture, fun, food, and sense of community.
With the pandemic surging through our communities over the past year and a half, it was all to play for in the poll.

And now, the results are in for the 2021 ’49 coolest neighbourhoods in the world’.
Making it at number 15 on the list is Dublin 8. The south side area of the city is rich in culture and beauty, and it hasn’t gone unnoticed by Time Out.
Now the popular, bustling area in Ireland has been crowned as one of the coolest places to live in the world.
Time Out’s thoughts – “the essence and charm of the Irish Capital to a tee”
Time Out’s Éadaoin Fitzmaurice praised the area, claiming that Dublin 8 holds “the essence and charm if the Irish capital to a tee.
“With much of the city being built up with cookie-cutter hotels and skyscrapers, this nook has retained much of its original architecture.”
Hotspots around the area mentioned in the article were Lucky’s Pub and the Pearse Lyons Distillery. A nod was given to the array of street art, markets, and cafes in this charming area of Dublin.

The pandemic – the effect on the coolest neighbourhoods list
Time Out’s ‘The 49 coolest neighbourhoods in the world’ article mentioned the unusual phenomenon of the pandemic shaking throughout neighbourhoods.
“New normal. You’ve probably heard that phrase a lot over the past 18 months. When the pandemic hit last year, humankind entered a new era.”
They continue. “But now, many of us have gone some way to throwing off those shackles. Border restrictions are loosening.
Bars, restaurants, even clubs are reopening. And while the pandemic still rages on, we’re all tentatively reaching out to something that kind of resembles a better normal.”
