Over the years, Irish passports have evolved to incorporate iconic images of the island, historical figures as well as native wildlife, and now it has been revealed that Irish passports will change yet again.
While the main aspects of the passport, such as the harp on the burgundy background, will remain the same, there are a few changes due to come about, and the best part is that Irish people will be a part of the process.

The Irish passport, one of the strongest in the world, currently ranking fifth best in the world according to Henley’s Global Ranking, has some changes in store this year.
With plenty of exciting new additions in the hands of the Irish public, the new passport will be revamped for the first time in a decade.
As part of a new initiative launched by the Department of Foreign Affairs this week, the nation is being asked which aspects they would like to see appearing on the new design.
While the focus is on Ireland’s unique natural landscape, including its diverse flora and fauna, the passport is also expected to have some necessary security upgrades, which the International Civil Aviation Authority highly recommends.
A government official said, “For this exercise, the department will seek the public’s input on choosing aspects of Ireland’s diverse flora and fauna to help shape the passport design”.
Irish public urged to get involved – passport redesign survey
If there’s one thing the Irish love to do, it is to come together as a community and make decisions for their country, and now that the chance to redesign the new Irish passport is available, the nation can get creative.
The Department of Foreign Affairs has launched a survey on its website, enabling people to help explore the design options.
The online questionnaire is quick, easy, and informative, allowing you to pick and choose what aspects of Ireland you would love to see on the new passport due to be launched at the end of 2025.
With the option to choose your favourite native Irish animal and type of vegetation and provide your own suggestions, the survey is an excellent way for all to get involved in a pivotal aspect of our nation’s future.

“The public will be asked for input during the passport design phase through a short online questionnaire asking them to consider which Irish flora and fauna should be included in the design”.
