It has been officially confirmed that one of the biggest, most highly-regarded musicals of recent years is coming to Dublin.
After sharing a sneak peek at the announcement, the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre has confirmed that Hamilton will be hitting the Dublin stage.
During its run on Broadway in 2015, it won 11 Tony Awards. In 2017, the show hit London’s West End, garnering seven Olivier Awards. It also won a Grammy and a Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
The musical – Hamilton’s impact on culture, education, and politics
When Hamilton first premiered on Off-Broadway in New York’s Public Theatre, the reception was incredible. The sung-and-rapped-through style of the musical was of particular shock and awe for critics.
Tickets were some of the priciest the Broadway theatre had seen, skyrocketing to $1,000 by October in the year it was first performed to the public.
The music, lyrics, and book for the show come from the incredible talent of Lin-Manuel Miranda and follows the story of Founding Father Alexander Hamilton, played until July 2016 by Miranda himself.
The show draws massively from hip-hop, R&B, pop and soul, as well as incorporating traditional show tunes.
The cast of the musical sees non-white actors as the Founding Fathers of America and other historical figures. Miranda described the show as “America then, as told by America now”.
Hamilton is coming to Dublin – a world-renowned show
The Bord Gáis Energy Theatre in Dublin is “synonymous with spectacular performance art”, and Hamilton is no exception.

A new company for Hamilton will be coming to Dublin and is currently being put together from over 3,000 hopeful artists. The cast is set to be announced soon.
Bord Gáis Energy Theatre – one of Europe’s leading theatrical institutes
Hamilton is coming to Dublin, and the location for the show will be the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre in Dublin’s Docklands.
The theatre is largely recognised as one of Europe’s leading theatrical institutes and has welcomed over five million visitors since it opened in 2010.
Showing performances like Dirty Dancing, Rocky Horror Picture Show, Heathers, and The Lion King, Hamilton now joins the exciting repertoire from nine weeks from September next year.
