So, what is Our Living Islands? – an exciting government initiative

The exciting scheme was launched by the Irish Government back in 2023, but they’re still calling out to those interested in taking part.
Announcing the scheme to offer €84,000 to people willing to move to one of 30 remote islands off the coast of Ireland, Gov.ie wrote, “Our coastal islands and their communities are an integral part of the fabric of rural Ireland.
“They also an integral part of the State’s heritage and have a special significance in Irish culture.”
They explained their aims to develop the infrastructure and transport links for these islands. Continuing, they said, “Our Living Islands is a 10-year national policy for these off-shore islands.
“The aim of this policy is to ensure that sustainable, vibrant communities can continue to live – and thrive – on the offshore islands for many years to come.”
So, what is expected? – get paid €84,000 to move to Ireland’s remote islands

The lucky people selected to partake in the Our Living Islands scheme will be expected to renovate an abandoned property on the island.
The home must have been built before 1993 and have been vacant for more than two years. The €84,000 grant should be used to cover structural work, insulation, redecoration, and other renovation essentials.
Applications officially opened in July 2023 — and remain open today. Find out more on the Gov.ie website here.
