A hit Netflix show is set to film its long-awaited second season in Wicklow, with filming beginning early next year.

There was great news for the Irish film industry recently as it has been announced that Wednesday, the popular Netflix TV show and Addams Family spin-off is set to begin filming in the south of Ireland in County Wicklow this April.
Not only is it great news for fans, but it also comes as a much-welcomed boost for the Irish film industry, which has steadily gained an impressive global reputation in recent years.
Wednesday – a spin-off of the popular Addams Family series

Wednesday, a spin-off of the famous Addams Family series, boasts a wealth of talented stars such as Jenna Ortega, Christina Ricci, Emma Myers and Catherine Zita Jones, to name a few.
The Tim Burton-led comedy horror show is set to return for its much anticipated second season, and thankfully for Ireland, this season will be filmed in what is quickly becoming regarded as the Hollywood of Europe – County Wicklow.
With approximately 252 million viewers, Wednesday has quickly become regarded as the most popular English language series available on Netflix.
Ireland’s world-famous film industry – a popular location for filmmakers

This announcement is among the latest in a series of great news stories for the County Wicklow film industry.
For example, the recent announcements of the opening of Clermont Screen Hub in Rathnew and the further progression of Greystones Media Campus, which is planned to become Ireland’s largest TV studio and film location.
These recent developments have helped solidify Wicklow’s fast-growing reputation as an important part of the Irish film industry.
Wicklow – a popular Irish filming location

Wicklow Sinn Féin TD John Brady, when talking about the news that Wednesday would be filming in Wicklow, said, “The announcement that the next series, which will be the second season of the hit Netflix show Wednesday, is to be filmed in Wicklow represents a huge boost to the Irish film industry.
“With an estimated budget of over €200 million, which is comparative to that of a major Hollywood movie, we are talking about a massive TV series, which has outperformed the latest season of the hit show Stranger Things, which most people would recognise as a firm fan favourite.
“The importance of the announcement to the Irish film industry cannot be overstated. Wicklow, through Ashford and Ardmore film studios, has been synonymous with Film Ireland.
“The addition of a major TV series such as Wednesday puts Wicklow back firmly front and centre on the international stage.
“Like all across Wicklow, I look forward with confidence to even more success in the Film industry for both Ashford and Ardmore studios. The future of the studio industry in Wicklow certainly looks very bright indeed”.
