Two Dublin cocktail bars are ranked amongst the best cocktail bars in Europe according to a leading travel site.
Big 7 Travel, a leading travel site, prides itself in providing current, curated recommendations from their travel specialists. Earlier this week it launched its “The 50 best cocktail bars in Europe 2020”, and two Dublin bars made the top 25!
Finding brilliant cocktail bars can be tough, but when two Irish bars ranked amongst the top 50 cocktail bars in Europe, you are sure to find incredible concoctions.
The Blind Pig – in the top 20 two years running
This is the second year in a row that Big 7 have included The Blind Pig in its top 20. Although dropping one place in the rankings, this Suffolk Street speakeasy rightfully holds its position as the best cocktail bar in Ireland.
“The Blind Pig is a beautiful speakeasy and Prohibition bar located in a hidden basement just off Dublin’s Grafton Street,” describes the article. An internationally award-winning mixologist, Paul Lambert, is the man behind this Irish bar ranked amongst the top 50.
“The bar offers an authentic prohibition era experience and the bartenders are well known for being some of the best in the industry,” which is evident from its expertly crafted cocktail menu.
This underground cocktail bar brings with it the thrill of keeping secrets, like those during the prohibition era. “Experience the forgotten thrill of secret passwords, false storefronts, and just a touch of lawlessness. You have to keep it a secret. So shush!” says the Blind Pig website.
With such a unique experience and masterclass cocktail lists, it is no wonder that The Blind Pig ranked in the top 20 of Europe’s top 50 cocktail bars.
9 Below – a newcomer to the list, ranked 24th
The other Irish bar ranked in the top 50 entry is Dublin’s 9 Below. Cocktail connoisseurs and celebrities frequent this chic little speakeasy in the heart of Dublin City Centre.
“In the basement of Stephen’s Green Hibernian Club, the beautifully designed space has four spacious rooms to have a merry time with your loved ones and friends,” says the Big 7 article.
“We want our guests to enjoy a truly premium experience in a relaxed, discreet environment with the best drinks menu in Dublin. We want 9 Below to be the epitome of low-key luxury delivered with a high level of service,” according to the General Manager of 9 Below, Stuart Courtney.
This luxury bar experience has an impressive cocktail list created by Andrew Dickey, who won the title of World Class Irish Bartender of the Year 2016, and Stevie Wynne, one of Ireland’s best bartenders.
Classic cocktails and showstoppers take prominence in this speakeasy. However, it is “the aptly named D.T.F: Absolut Elyx Vodka, Passionfruit Cordial, Lemon, Vanilla, and Egg Whites,” that gets a mention in the Big 7 article.
These two Irish bars rightfully earned their place amongst the top 50 cocktail bars in Europe, and definitely should be added to your bucket list when visiting Dublin!
