At the beginning of the year, it was expected that Maeve was going to grow in popularity in the year to come, and the recent stats by Nameberry prove that expectations were correct.

Maeve comes in third place for trending baby girl names so far in 2023, and it’s a name that is joined by some rather unorthodox ones, too.

Baby name experts have noticed that newer parents are veering towards giving their children more uncommon names.

As such, the top name, as per the Nameberry site, is Luxury. Other names on the list are Aurelia, Eloise, Alice, Aurora, Isla, Luna, Ophelia, and Iris.

Some of these names have been around for years, like Iris and Alice, and are simply making a comeback. However, names like Luxury are certainly new to many baby name lists.

Maeve – she who intoxicates

Maeve means she who intoxicates.

Maeve, which is the anglicised version of the Irish name Meabh or Mebh, is generally a female name meaning “she who intoxicates”.

It’s a name of Gaelic origin that has stood the test of time, popular both historically and in modern-day Ireland and elsewhere around the world.

The name has a great standing in Irish folklore thanks to Queen Maeve of Connacht. She was considered one of the most remarkable figures and strongest leaders of the time. This is even more impressive because Cuchulainn was around at this time.

According to Nameberry, Maeve comes in as the third most popular trending baby girl name of 2023 so far.
