5. Derry Ancient Spirit Hunt – try your hand at hunting the haunted
Calling all ghost hunters! Nine ancient spirits are on the loose around Derry, and the locals require your help to apprehend them.
For one of the more fun and unique Halloween events in Derry this year, an augmented reality mobile game is used to search for the restless souls in some of the city’s most well-known locations.
Players then earn special offers from local businesses as a reward for each successful capture. As an added incentive, proceeds go to Foyle Search and Rescue to help fund their vital work.

1. Awakening the Walled City (Spirit Worlds) – something for everyone
One of the best Halloween events in Derry this year, and arguably the main feature of the annual festival, is its Spirit Worlds event.
Comprised of five different worlds (three located in Derry, one in Strabane, and one in Donegal), each represents a different spirit associated with Samhain.
Free and suitable for all, this open-air event offers an unhindered exploration of different themed locations and enhanced education regarding the creatures of the night that dwell in them.
Visitors will hear Cailleach, Queen of Winter’s terrifying tales in The Whispering Wharf (World 1) and greet Walter de Burgh and his ancestors in The City of Bones (World 2).
They will also encounter Phantom Queen Morrígan awaiting their presence in her lair in The Forest of Shadows (World 3). Plus, witness the open portal enabling safe passage for the paranormal in The Awakening (also World 3).
Each world’s trail is between 1-2 km (0.6-1.2 miles) long, and all have their own starting points. With so much to see and do, we highly recommend this event that is sure to prove fun for all the family.
