In the social media post revealing her trip to Donegal, Taylor Swift wrote about the past year.

She wrote, “It’s been one year since we escaped the real world together and imagined ourselves someplace simpler.

“With tall, tall trees and salt air. Where you’re allowed to wear lace nightgowns that make you look like a Victorian ghost every day, and no one will side-eye you cause no one is around.

“It’s just you and your imaginary cabin and the stories you make up to pass the time.”

The singer also announced the release of her latest single, ‘The Lakes’. The orchestral version released on Saturday was written and produced by Swift and her British boyfriend, actor Joe Alwyn.

She continued, “To say thank you for all you have done to make this album what it was, I wanted to give you the original version of ‘The Lakes’.

“Happy one year anniversary to Rebekah, Betty, Inez, James, Augustine, and the lives we all created around them. Happy Anniversary, Folklore.”

Portsalon Beach was once voted the second most beautiful beach in the world by Observer Magazine. The picturesque beach is located on the western side of Lough Swilly, close to Fanad Head Lighthouse.

Parking is available but fills up quickly in the summer months. A Blue Flag beach, Portsalon is perfect for swimming. Lifeguards are on duty between June and September.

The beach stretches for around a mile, from Portsalon to the Knockalla Hills. Attractions to visit nearby include Murder Hole Beach, Glenveagh National Park and Glenveagh Castle and Gardens.

It’s unknown if Taylor Swift is still in County Donegal. However, the photos of the singer have confirmed rumours among fans for months that she is in Ireland with boyfriend Joe Alwyn.

The British actor is currently filming in Belfast for the TV adaptation of Irish author Sally Rooney’s Conversations With Friends.

He plays Nick, an older Irish man who, with his wife, Melissa, becomes entangled in the lives of two Trinity College Dublin students, Bobbi and Frances, who are ex-girlfriends.

Like Rooney’s acclaimed novel and TV adaptation, Normal People, the story is mainly set in Dublin. It will premiere on Hulu in 2022.

The photos of Taylor Swift in Donegal are the first public confirmation of Swift holidaying in Ireland since 2018. Back then, she stayed in Glin Castle, Limerick, with Alwyn.

The Georgian country house and national heritage site is owned and managed by another English actor. Dominic West and his wife Catherine FitzGerald bought the castle, where FitzGerald grew up, in 2015.

Glin Castle is located on the River Shannon and has been home to the FitzGeralds for over 700 years. The public can book the castle as a venue for weddings and other events.
