The famous newspaper The Sunday Times recently published its annual report, which focused on what it believed to be the best places to live in Northern Ireland in 2024.

Its guide focused on what they described as a celebration of cities, towns, and villages that make for the perfect place to live this year.

Three Northern Irish locations had cause for celebration as the list praised their “community spirit” and “interesting cultural scene”.

Portstewart was officially named the best place to live in Northern Ireland in The Sunday Times annual Best Places to Live guide. The paper wrote, “Year-round community spirit is the beating heart of Northern Ireland’s most graceful seaside town”.

The town’s beautiful sandy beach is a popular focal point of life there. Portstewart also boasts a wide variety of great shops, restaurants, and cafes, as well as a delightful cultural scene best experienced at the Flowerfield Arts Centre.

Regular beach cleans, litter picks, and a host of volunteers who aid with things such as the annual Red Sails festival are just a few good examples of the pride that the local community has for their area.

The town of Donaghadee, famous for being the driest spot in the North, also features on the list of 72 locations.

This picturesque town regularly attracts tourists who come equipped with kayaks, paddleboards, and sailing boats to enjoy its scenic and aquatic surroundings.

There is a strong sense of community in the town; nowhere has this been demonstrated more than by the local swimming club. The so-called Donaghadee Chunky Dunkers have raised thousands of pounds for charity over the past decade.

The pretty town has a charming feel thanks to its multicoloured houses, lighthouses, and many independently owned shops, pubs, restaurants, and cafes, perfectly showcasing its local produce.

The Ormeau area boasts lots of great cafes, excellent schools, and brilliant outdoor spaces. Places like Ormeau and Cherryvale Parks provide both joggers and cyclists with plenty of space to enjoy the refreshing outdoors.
