With the help of European funding, the new state-of-the-art skate park has opened in County Antrim for all to use.

Following a £750,000 (€877,000) investment, one of the largest skate parks in the UK and Ireland has officially opened in Newtownabbey, north Belfast, County Antrim.
The long-awaited ‘Skate 100 V36’ was unveiled on Saturday, 7 May 2022, following funding supported by the European Union’s PEACE IV programme.
Funding was also provided by the Executive Office and the Department of Rural and Community Development.
The largest skate park in Ireland – a new world-class facility

The Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council have described the facility as “one of the largest skate parks in the UK and Ireland”. The project was approved in April 2021, taking just over one year to complete.
The park will be open from “dawn until disk” and will turn off its floodlights at 10 pm. The park measures around 14,000 sq ft (1,300 sq m); it includes a 10 ft (3 m) deep bowl, ledges, stairs, banks, and sharp hips.
Belfast Live reported one woman as saying, “It’s a great park for the ever-growing skating community”. Meanwhile, the Antrim and Newtownabbey Council confirmed the park is designed for “thrills, flips, and fun”.
Where the experts can shine – designed for top skaters

Visitors to the unveiling of one of the largest skate parks in the UK and Ireland were treated to a show by expert skaters. The new park will certainly become a haven for those with a passion for the sport in Belfast.
The Antrim and Newtownabbey Council hope the skate park will draw thousands of people and skaters to the facility to use the excellent amenities on offer.
The new park was designed by a team of experienced urban sports experts. It is said to be suitable for skateboarders, scooters, incline skaters, BMX freestyle, and parkour.
What this could mean for Antrim and Newtownabbey – bringing the thousands along

Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Billy Webb, said the park would be both “ground-breaking” and “exciting”. It is “another fabulous asset within V36 Valley Park”.
He continued, “The local community will reap the rewards from this shared space as it will accommodate urban sports for many years to come.
“I’ve met some users of the skate park and have been delighted with their rave reviews and amazed at their passion for the sport.”
Antrim and Newtownabbey Council said this project “aims to encourage young people to engage in an active, healthy lifestyle”. They are also encouraged to embrace “the urban sports culture”.
