Two NI spots named best waterside restaurants in the UK.

Eating at waterside restaurants elevates the dining experience as customers will, on average, enjoy some great food and have many breathtaking views to admire.

The famous UK newspaper, The Times, lists the best waterside restaurants in the UK to visit. The list features two Northern Ireland restaurants.

Both restaurants are in County Derry. Harry’s Shack and Lir, located in Portstewart, were included on the prestigious list. This is thanks to their stunning locations and tasty food.

Describing why they decided to come up with the list of the best places to eat by the water in the UK, The Times said, “With spring finally in the air, there’s no better time to take advantage of the incredible variety of opportunities in the UK to dine by the water.

“Whether it’s a riverside pub, beachside brasserie or even a converted canal barge, you’ll find something to delight in our selection of the best places in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland”.

Harry’s Shack is set on Portstewart Strand’s sands and is recognisable thanks to its large, sheltered terrace. This rustic seafood restaurant is set against the beautiful beach of Portstewart Strand, a sandy National Trust beach.

Their menu is mainly comprised of many excellent and simply prepared dishes. They all incorporate the freshest seafood caught daily by local fishermen.

With excellent dishes such as Carlingford Oysters with Tabasco and Lemon to Whole Red Mullet with Crab and Caper Butter and a superb selection of local beers and quality wines, you will be sure to enjoy an excellent selection.

To make things even better, when dining in the restaurant, you will be offered the opportunity to admire the fabulous views of Ireland’s North Coast.

Lir in Portstewart is a modern seafood restaurant, fishmonger and deli all rolled into one. Husband-and-wife team Stevie and Rebekah McCarry run this modern seafood restaurant.

During the day, the restaurant, which overlooks the majestic River Bann, changes its lunch menu based on the day’s sustainable catch.

At night, Lir offers visitors many creative dishes. This includes Pan-Fried Cod served with Crispy Confit Chicken Leg and a Boulangère Potato Spiral. Keeping in with their ‘locally sourced’ beliefs, Lir offers a majority of craft Irish brewers.

The first draught-on taps range using Lacada, based in Portrush, and Boundary and Bullhouse from Belfast, alongside a variety of other great cans from all over Ireland.
