The Irish Government has approved a €186 million funding package to develop a brand new town in Dublin called Clonburris. Thus, the new Dublin town will bring affordable housing to the city.

Yesterday, 27 July, the Government announced on gov.ie. that the money will be used to invest in the necessary infrastructure to develop the new town.
Clonburris, Dublin’s brand new town, will be located between Lucan, Clondalkin and Liffey Valley in Dublin. Also, the new neighbourhood in the city will provide a balance of urban living and open nature.
The funding will bring the means to build over 8,700 homes, and up to 2,600 of these homes will be social and affordable homes.
Dublin is getting a brand new town – the first of its kind

Housing Minister Darragh O’Brien said that the project is the first of its kind in a generation.
He said, “Clonburris will be a well-designed town with over 8,700 homes, good transport links and vital amenities and services.
“Up to 2,600 of these homes will be social and affordable homes delivered by my Department and South Dublin County Council.
“Today’s announcement illustrates the ever-growing reach of the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund in revitalising our cities and towns, improving their offering as places in which to live, work, visit or invest.”
Other significant developments – new roads, green infrastructure, sustainable living

As part of the project, there will also be many other developments to make the town the first of its kind.
New roads and bridges will be built to facilitate sustainable modes of transport. There are also plans for two train stations. Additionally, a green infrastructure network will be in place to enhance and protect biodiversity.
Furthermore, there will be public parks and community centres built as multi-use and multi-purpose facilities.
Transformative urban regeneration –new Dublin town will bring affordable housing to the city

The Irish Government said the project has great potential. It is to be a “transformative urban regeneration and development project of national, regional and local significance”.
“The project will facilitate the provision of distinctive and attractive places where housing can be delivered in tandem with state-of-the-art public realm, green infrastructure and community facilities,” it added.
While the plan has been in action since 2018, the funding has now been approved. The new town of Clonburris will be providing housing for around 21,000 residents 10 km (6.2m) from the city centre. So, find out more about Clonburris here.
