There are a few things the Irish are good at – music and arts, having the craic, and alcoholic drinks.

So, it comes as no surprise that one local Irish whiskey brand has been named ‘best in the world’ during a prestigious awards ceremony held in London earlier this week.

Going up against some of the biggest players in the world whiskey industry, the County Wicklow distillery fought off some tough competition to take the prize.

Fercullen 15, from Powerscourt Distillery in County Wicklow, took the crown for ‘World’s Best Grain’ at the World Whiskies Awards global final in London on Wednesday night.

Held at the Waldorf Hotel in Aldwych, the prestigious ceremony brought together some of the main players in the global whiskey industry.

Beating out some tough competition, however, the local Irish whiskey brand was named the ‘Best in the World’. They previously secured the title of Ireland’s Best Grain Whiskey in Dublin in February.

Powerscourt’s Fercullen 15-Year-Old Single Grain Whiskey is renowned for its initially creamy taste that transitions to dry woody notes.

It offers hints of candied fruits, caramel, and marshmallows.

Speaking on the win, Powerscourt’s Master Distiller Paul Corbett said, “Winning this award is a significant milestone for Fercullen.

“It reflects our commitment to excellence and our passion for producing world-class whiskey.

“We are honoured to be recognised on such a prestigious platform and are excited to continue sharing our exceptional whiskey with the world.”
