In anticipation of its sixth season airing imminently, the cast and crew are sharing some of their best memories, and one Line of Duty star even shares the crew’s favourite Belfast pubs.

First airing in June 2012, the BBC police drama has proven popular with audiences all over the U.K.

Seasons two to four of the show were filmed in Belfast with locations such as the St Anne’s Cathedral and the Invest NI building on Bedford Street being transformed into the offices of AC-12.

With the brand new sixth season on the way, BBC One has been airing earlier seasons to allow fans to catch up and get excited for what’s to come.

Season two began airing on Saturday night at 9 pm, and the show’s creator Jed Mercurio accompanied the rerun with a running commentary on Twitter to give fans some insider information.

In a tweet shared on Sunday, Mercurio stated, “Series 2 was the first we filmed in Belfast.

“Invest NI, Bedford St, became the offices of AC-12. There we found the little glass interview room we’ve used ever since, albeit in a different location for each season. Only the lobby has appeared in later seasons.”

However, the cast and crew didn’t spend all their time around St Anne’s Cathedral and the Invest NI buildings as the show’s star Martin Compston (who plays DS Steve Arnott) revealed.

In response to Mercurio’s initial tweet, Line of Duty star Compston shared his favourite Belfast pubs.

In a tweet, he wrote, “Became an essential location in Belfast.

“Nearly as important as The Spaniard, Liquor and the Merchant when we’re feeling fancy.”

Locals were glad to hear that the cast and crew enjoyed their time exploring Belfast’s pub scene with many waiting for the day they can return to their old favourites.

One wrote, “The Spaniard is some spot, don’t know how it’ll work after all this though.

“Love seeing all the hustle and bustle around the Invest NI building when youse are in town, gives a buzz about the place!”

Another wrote, “Bet you guys missed them this time around.  Next time I’m sure you can make up for it.”

Others responded to the Line of Duty star sharing his favourite Belfast pubs suggesting he try out some of Belfast’s other famous watering holes such as the Crown, Muriels, and the Duke of York.

Filming of season six had been delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic but production resumed in late 2020 with staff adhering to strict safety protocols.

There is currently no official date for when fans can expect to see the new season, but the BBC has indicated plans for the show to air in early 2021.
