The top 50 most beautiful-sounding baby names have been revealed, and one Irish name ranks near the top of the list.

Recent research by an expert at the University of Birmingham has revealed that some words, thus some names, sound better than others.
This interesting theory of scientifically more beautiful names is based on the theories of language, like iconicity and sound symbolism.
The study analysed hundreds of popular baby names that have “the most beautiful sounds” in the UK and the US to bring a definitive list of the world’s most popular baby names that sound the best when spoken out loud.
The most beautiful names, according to science – Zayn and Sophia

In the UK, the most beautiful-sounding boy’s name was Zayn. The name originally became popular more than a decade ago thanks to Zayn Malik from One Direction.
It’s an Arabic name that means ‘beauty’ and ‘grace’, so while it is deemed the most beautiful-sounding name, it also has a meaning that reflects that too.
For girl names, Sophia topped the list as the most beautiful. Sophia is a name with Greek origins that means ‘wisdom’.
For boys, the names Jesse and Charlie were close behind to round out the top three, while Zoe and Rosie rounded out the top three names for girls.
The research reflects the theory that names ending in an ‘ee’ sound are deemed some of the most beautiful.
Irish name voted one of the most ‘scientifically beautiful’ names – Rowan

Among the top 15 most ‘scientifically beautiful names’ is one Irish name – Rowan. Rowan ranks as the 13th most beautiful baby name for boys.

Other Irish names on the list – Liam, Riley and Erin

While Rowan ranks the highest out of all the Irish names on the top 50 list, there are several more Irish names that rank further down the list.
