Since October 2020, Stripe began paying companies to pull carbon out of the atmosphere in a bid to tackle climate change.
Customers of the online payments company have the option to join its carbon removal strategy, Stripe Climate, by contributing a percentage of their digital sales that flow through Stripe’s software. This funding is then used to fund carbon removal technology.
By the end of 2021, more than 15,000 companies across 40 countries had joined the programme. In addition, Stripe Climate last year increased its carbon removal commitments to $15 million.
