Radical Storage analysed almost 100,000 visitor reviews from 100 of the world’s most popular destinations to find out which spots lived up to expectations.

According to their findings, the Irish city was the most ‘highly recommended’ destination in the world by tourists. They revealed that 11.2% of visitors said they ‘recommended’ visiting the city.

Hopping just across the water, the Scottish capital of Edinburgh followed closely behind in second place, with 10.9% of travellers recommending a visit to the city.

Meanwhile, Toronto claimed third spot with 9.9%.

The study looked at 97,409 visitor reviews to discover which global travel destinations were the ‘most romanticised’. Thus, leading to disappointment and ‘unmet expectations’.

They dub the phenomenon ‘Paris syndrome’. They describe it as a “psychological condition that can be experienced by first-time visitors to Paris who are extremely disappointed that the city did not meet their expectations”.

According to their 2025 findings, Cancún in Mexico proved to be the biggest letdown for tourists. Analysis revealed 14.2% of visitors dubbed it as ‘underwhelming’.

Antalya in Turkey came in second with 12.2%, followed by Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic (11.9%). Beijing in China ranked fourth (11.2%) and Orlando, USA, fifth (10.6%).

So, we don’t know whether that means travellers to Dublin had very low expectations to begin with. Whatever the case, we’re proud that the Irish city is among the most ‘highly recommended’ in the world.
