Irish beach beats Rio’s Copacabana in list of world’s best beaches

Beach Atlas compiled a list of the top 100 beaches in the world, and one Irish beach ranks higher than Copacabana, as well as some of the most admired beaches around the world.

Keem Bay in Achill Island, which is one of the best beaches in Ireland, has made the list of the top 100 beaches in the world. This beautiful beach, located past Dooagh village in the west of Achill Island in County Mayo, has outranked some of the most highly regarded strips of sand across the world.

The Achill Island beach was selected as the 35th best beach in the world, ranking one spot higher than the famous Copacabana beach in Rio De Janeiro.

Keem Bay has ranked 35th on Beach Atlas’ list of the best beaches in the world. This popular Irish beach is the only beach in Ireland to make the list.

On the list, the Achill Island beach sits cosily between Copacabana to the rear and Kite Beach in Dubai to the front.

The list praises Keem Bay for its “tranquil atmosphere” and “rentable kayaks and even organized kayaking tours”.

Address: Co. Mayo, Ireland

Listed among the best – beautiful beaches around the world

Bora Bora islands were first on the list.

35th is a lovely ranking when we are talking about beautiful beaches across the entire planet! The list features breath-taking and adventure-worthy beaches across Europe, Asia, North and South America, Australia, and Africa.

The top three beaches on the list were the Bora Bora islands in French Polynesia, Source D’Argent in Seychelles, and Whitehaven Beach located in the Great Barrier Reef.

Keem Bay is the only beach from Ireland that made the list, and it also ranked higher than two UK beaches, Durdle Door in Dorset, 38th, and Tenby North Beach in Pembrokeshire, 78th.

It is a horseshoe-shaped white sand beach that sits between cliffs on both sides. It has Croaghaun mountain to the east and Moyteoge headland to the west. Its beauty is undeniable.
