Many of us have spent the last couple of years indoors, with enforced lockdowns and travel restrictions. Now, we are craving our long-awaited return to travel and the great outdoors.
With this in mind, clothing company Superdry has compiled a list of the world’s top 20 ultimate adventure travel destinations. Lucky for us, Ireland has ranked in the top ten adventure hotspots in the world!
With an ‘Outdoor Adventure Score’ of 73.3/100, the Emerald Isle has gained recognition for its potential as an adventure lover’s dream destination.
Ireland ranks in top ten adventure hotspots in the world – so much to explore
As a top hiking and surfing destination, Ireland came in at number ten in Superdry’s ranking of global adventure destinations.
They wrote, “If you enjoy jumping into the nearest mass of water for some watersports, then Ireland may be an ideal choice for your next adventure holiday.
“Though the temperature of the sea isn’t as warm as some of the other watersports hotspots of the world, you will be treated to views of the glorious Irish coastline whilst taking part in a spot of surfing or kayaking – just be sure to pack a wetsuit!”
Hikers can enjoy the iconic Macgillycuddy’s Reeks in County Kerry. Meanwhile, surfers can shred the stunning ‘surf coast’ of Sligo and Donegal. All in all, there are plenty of opportunities for adventure to be found in Ireland.
From north to south, east to west, adventure awaits at every corner of the Emerald Isle. Promoting a culture of sport and discovery, locals grew to appreciate Ireland’s wild outdoors when travel restrictions prevented them from venturing further afield.
Other top destinations – the world’s best adventure hotspots
Coming out on top as the best adventure destination in the world is Croatia. Famed for its rock climbing, both beginner and experienced adventure enthusiasts travel to Paklenica National Park every year.
Isreal came in second, closely followed by Hong Kong in third. The United Kingdom took the fourth spot, while Singapore took fifth. Costa Rica, Switzerland, and Austria came in sixth, seventh, and eighth, respectively.
Coming just ahead of Ireland to rank in the top ten adventure hotspots in the world is Germany.
