New rankings reveal that Ireland is now the third most powerful passport in the world.

Ireland now proudly claims to be a more powerful passport than the UK, according to the latest Henley Passport Index rankings.
This annual index, compiled by residence and citizenship firm Henley & Partners, assesses passports based on the number of countries holders can enter without the need for a visa.
2024 update – what was revealed?

The 2024 update from the Henley Passport Index reveals that Ireland, previously tied with the UK in sixth place, has ascended to third place. This leap positions Ireland ahead of the UK, which has slipped to fourth, with the crucial difference being access to one additional visa-free destination.
Singapore has reclaimed the top spot as the most powerful passport in the world from Japan, adding three more countries to its list of visa-free destinations,
Ireland and the UK have both maintained positions in the top 10 for the past 15 years, highlighting the strength of their passports. However, this year’s rankings underscore a notable shift in their relative standings.
Ireland has the edge – Ireland has visa-free access to new destinations

While many popular destinations remain visa-free for both Irish and UK passport holders, several key differences now give the Irish passport an edge.
Notably, Irish citizens can enter China, the world’s fourth most visited country, without a visa. In contrast, UK passport holders must secure a visa before they enter China.
Additionally, Irish passport holders enjoy visa-free access to Iran and Uganda, whereas British citizens must navigate visa requirements for these countries.
On the flip side, UK passport holders have the advantage of visa-free travel to Pakistan, a benefit not enjoyed by their Irish counterparts.
