Travel Weekly is a leading publication in the world travel industry, boasting thousands of readers each week.
This year’s Readers Choice Awards was their 19th annual ceremony in which they recognise the very best in the world of travel across 79 competitive categories.
The black-tie gala ceremony took place at the Conrad in New York City on 16 December, and Ireland was named the best travel destination in Europe.
Ireland named best travel destination in Europe – beating France, Greece, Italy, and Spain
One such category at this year’s awards recognised the very best travel destination in Europe.
With tough competition from leading travel destinations, such as Greece, Italy, France with its beautiful places to stay in Paris and other regions, and Spain, Ireland was crowned the winner. So, the Emerald Isle took home the title of best travel destination in Europe.
Other finalists for the award included top European destinations, such as England, France, Greece, Iceland, and Italy.
However, this is not the first year Travel Weekly readers have recognised the beauty and attraction of the Emerald Isle. In fact, the 2021 ceremony marks the eighth year that Ireland has been named the best travel destination in Europe.
How the winners were chosen – the voting process
Travel Weekly conducted an open ballot of voting during the summer. During this process, readers were invited to write in the names of companies or destinations they believed best exemplified a particular category.
Companies and destinations with the most votes were then identified as finalists. These were then subjected to a second round of voting in the autumn.
Finalists who received the most votes in this second round were then identified as the 2021 winners.
