Ireland has been ranked Europe’s friendliest country

Beating competition from some of the continent’s favourite nations, Ireland has been ranked Europe’s friendliest country by readers of Condé Nast Traveller.

An esteemed travel magazine has ranked the Emerald Isle as the friendliest country in Europe. It fended off competition from some of the continent’s most popular and visited destinations.

Condé Nast Traveller put the question to its readers to decide on the most welcoming European nation, and the 2022 Readers’ Choice Awards placed Ireland in the top spot.

The Readers’ Choice Awards – what they are

Condé Nast Traveller’ announced their Readers’ Choice Awards on 4 October. They describe the friendliest countries as the “most welcoming places on earth, as voted for by you”.

Ten countries on the continent, according to the awards, ensure an “open-armed reception is always on the itinerary”.

The magazine declares that it is “a fact unspoken that one of the most important ingredients in the recipe for a memorable holiday are the people we meet along the way”.

It continued, “Friendly locals who extend a warm welcome, who are keen to help you fall in love with their home just as they have, can turn an average escape into an unforgettable one”.

In tenth place on the list is Spain, as “it is the people who will ensure it is a fruitful pilgrimage”. In ninth spot is Italy, arguably Europe’s most beautiful country. The magazine states, it “personifies romance, a zest for life, and unbridled love for the finer things in life”.

Sitting eight in the rankings is the Netherlands, whose people “are famous the world over for being open, friendly, and welcoming”. Denmark closely followed Holland to claim seventh spot.

In sixth was Turkey, a nation brimmed with history and a varied culture. Kicking off the top five of the list of Europe’s friendliest countries is Finland.

In fourth is Iceland, another of Europe’s most beautiful nations with dramatic scenery. Better still, you will be “embraced by the welcoming local spirit”.

Finishing high in the third spot is Greece, peppered with stunning islands, whitewashed villages, history, and “faultless hospitality”.

Finishing just behind Ireland as Europe’s friendliest country is Portugal. Portugal boasts stretches of golden coast, quaint villages, and bustling cities. However, this was not enough to pip Ireland.

And so, Condé Nast Traveller’s readers ranked Ireland as Europe’s friendliest country. The magazine’s readers agreed with declarations that the Irish people are “some of the friendliest and most welcoming to visitors in the world”.

Dublin was mentioned. However, the magazine also implores you to venture further. They state that you should see the majestic Giant’s Causeway or the breathtaking Cliffs of Moher.
