Mamma Mia! is a jukebox musical written by British playwright Catherine Johnson that incorporates the music of chart-topping Swedish pop group ABBA. It debuted in London in 1999 and has since grossed over $4 billion worldwide.

It also spawned a film adaptation in 2008 and a 2018 sequel – Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again – boasting a star-studded cast including Meryl Streep, Amanda Seyfried, Colin Firth, and Irish actor Pierce Brosnan.

The musical is in its 24th consecutive year in London, making it the sixth longest-running show in the West End. It is also the ninth longest-running show on New York’s Broadway, playing for 14 years after its 2001 debut.

Bringing the show to Dublin again – “we are thrilled and excited”

Producer Judy Craymer revealed her excitement at bringing the how back to the capital: “We are really thrilled to be bringing Mamma Mia! back to Dublin where the hugely successful Mamma Mia! International Tour first opened at the Point Theatre in 2004.

“It was such a joyous experience, so it is only fitting that the International Tour returns to Dublin to celebrate 20 years of performances in 2024 at the 3Arena”.

Craymer concluded, “Mamma Mia! is a truly heart-warming story inspired by the irresistible music of ABBA. We can’t wait for the Dublin audiences, once again, to have the time of their lives!”.

We’re sure Dublin audiences are just as excited. Tickets go on sale via Ticketmaster on Thursday, 16 November 2023.
