The Londonderry Arms – a historic hotel
The Londonderry Arms is a historic hotel in Carnlough, County Antrim, which has been in the O’Neill family for 75 years. This landmark 35-bedroom hotel is perfectly positioned on the world-famous Causeway Coastal Route.
Built-in 1848, the hotel has a rich history as it was once a coaching inn for Frances Anne Vane Tempest, then Marchioness of Londonderry, its original owner.
Following the death of Lady Londonderry, the hotel was eventually inherited by her great-grandson Winston Churchill in 1921.
Since 1947, the Londonderry Arms has traded as a hotel under the management of its owners, the O’Neill family, one of Ireland’s longest-established hotelier families.
The hotel is renowned for its reputation for offering top-class hospitality, service and for providing brilliantly sourced food. It has become a much-loved haven for families and visitors both locally and abroad.
Located in an ideal location – popular with tourists
As mentioned previously, one of the factors that have helped the hotel to be successful is the fact that it is ideally located for tourists.
Also, in recent years, it has become established on the famous tourist route for Game of Thrones enthusiasts, as the stunning Carnlough harbour was actually a filming location for the show.
Owner, Denise O’Neill, said, “The hotel represents what is best about Ireland, both for those living and visiting here. The hotel is a real gem, and its location gives it a huge advantage, situated in what I consider to be simply spectacular surroundings.”
A hotel with a bright future – a great business prospect
Mark Patterson of OKT (O’Connor Kennedy Turtle), a commercial property consultant, is confident that with such a rich history, the hotel will successfully be able to generate significant interest at home and overseas.
He said, “We anticipate strong interest in the Londonderry Arms, which is a unique property on the stunning Antrim Coast Road that has serviced both local and tourist markets for generations.
“There is space for further expansion, so it offers tremendous potential for a new owner to further extend its long history of hospitality.
