The one-of-a-kind exhibition is inspired by the ‘first artwork to experience with your eyes closed’.

A groundbreaking light and sound experience has arrived in Belfast as part of the UK-wide Unboxed: Creativity in the UK festival.
Artists designed the exhibition, taking inspiration from the ‘first artwork to experience with your eyes closed’. They hope to give visitors the chance to create their very own cinematic experience.
Kicking off earlier this week, the unique exhibition will remain in place until 4 September. So, you have plenty of time to check out this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
An individual experience – it will be different for everyone

Dreamachine is a groundbreaking light and sound experience that will be running in Belfast over the next month.
The exhibition will take visitors into a kaleidoscopic world. Here, they will be immersed in light and sound, all be experienced with their eyes closed.
During the seated experience, the individual will control their own experience. This sees a radical shift from the passivity of the normal cinema or TV experience.
Groundbreaking light and sound experience opens in Belfast‒ part of a UK-wide arts festival

Artists created Dreamachine as part of the UK-wide Unboxed: Creativity in the UK festival. Recently, the festival brought the hugely successful ‘Our Place in Space’ exhibition to various locations across Northern Ireland. So, Dreamachine is set to be a hit with locals.
Following successful sold out shows in Cardiff and London, Dreamachine arrived at Carlisle Memorial Church in North Belfast.
Collective Act, who produce powerful large scale participatory commissions, worked alongside various renowned artists to create an experience like none other.
Turner Prize-winning artists’ collective Assemble and Grammy and Mercury nominated composer Jon Hopkins worked alongside a team of leading technologists, scientists, and philosphers to bring the experience to life.
Free-of-charge ‒ how to get tickets

The groundbreaking light and sound experience opened in Belfast this week and it is completely free to experience.
For the next month, Dreamachine will take over the historic Carlisle Memorial Church, first built in the 1870s. The internationally renowned landmark is an important centre of community engagement in the city.
Artists took inspiration for from the little-known 1959 invention by Brion Gysin. The talented artist-inventor created an extraordinary device using flickering lights to create kaleidoscopic patterns and vivid illusions to create images in the viewer’s mind.
Offering a completely individual experience for every viewer, his invention was a rebellion against the passive consumerism of mass-produced media.
Dreamachine aims to shed a unique light on the human brain, giving insight into our individual ‘inner universe’.
The event is free. However, you must have a ticket to attend. You can book tickets on the Dreamachine website here.
