Members of Ireland’s Gardaí have taken part in a viral dance challenge recording a video, which showcases the beauty of the breathtaking Irish scenery.
The Jerusalema Dance Challenge was started in February 2020 by Angolan dance troupe Fenómenos do Semba to show off their dance moves to the South African hit song Jerusalema.
The dance challenge has since gone viral with groups of friends and colleagues taking part and posting their submission online.
Last month, police in Switzerland posted their submission to the dance challenge and nominated their colleagues in Ireland to take part next.
Jerusalema Dance Challenge – a viral dance craze
The video posted by the Swiss police showed officers from all across the country taking part in the choreographed dance, with police dogs and the beautiful Swiss scenery also making an appearance.
The Swiss police then challenged their counterparts in Ireland, and the results were incredible.
In a video posted on An Garda Síochána’s social pages this week, officers from all across Ireland took part in the viral dance challenge, showing off their moves with the help of Garda horses and the breathtaking Irish scenery as their backdrop.
The uniformed Gardaí danced to the hit song on beaches, rooftops, roads, and in front of several Irish landmarks.

The response – a great way to lift spirits
The Gardaí have been praised for their efforts to lift spirits in the midst of a nationwide lockdown with the video reached over one million views.
On Twitter, they challenged the public to take part, writing, “Now that An Garda Síochána stepped up to the challenge, the public now have the floor.
“So making sure to stay home and in your bubbles. Post your challenge using #GardaJerusalema we want to see what you can do while staying safe. #GardaJerusalema #staysafe #HereToHelp”.
A reply from the challengers – we’re all Irish today
Impressed by their colleagues’ efforts in Ireland, the Swiss police have come out in support of Ireland’s take on the viral dance challenge.
Writing on Twitter, they stated, “Well, our colleagues @ZugerPolizei took the #jerusalemachallenge to a whole new level. But @gardainfo absolutely nailed it!
“In honour to this brilliant performance, we are all Irish in Switzerland today. Thank you @gardainfo for moments of pure joy! #StayhomeStaysafe#inthistogether.”
In a video to go along with their Tweet, a Swiss policeman is seen hanging the Tricolour from the police headquarters in Switzerland.
