A famous Galway pizzeria has won numerous prestigious awards for its mouthwatering pizza.
One of Galway’s most popular restaurants was last week named the best pizza takeaway in Europe.
Winning three 50 Top Pizza Awards, the much-loved The Dough Bros in Galway City has quickly caught the attention of pizza-lovers across the world.
Topping the list of best pizza takeaway in Europe, this foodie hotspot is no stranger to tremendous accolades.
The awards – finding the best pizza in Europe
The Dough Bros won three of the highly acclaimed 50 Top Pizza Awards at the ceremony, which took place in Milan, Italy.
The 50 Top Pizza publishes an annual guide to the best pizzerias across the world. Curated by three food industry and produce experts: Barbara Guerra, Albert Know, and Luciano Pignataro.
This Galway restaurant is named the best pizza takeaway in Europe for 2021. They also took home awards for the best pizzeria in Ireland and the 27th best pizzeria in Europe.
This is the second such appearance for The Dough Bros, who were the 21st best pizzeria in Europe in 2020.
The celebrations – replacing pizza with pints
The awards ceremony was hosted online again this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. However, that didn’t stop the team at The Dough Bros from celebrating.
Shutting their doors for the ceremony, the team watched and celebrated the awards ceremony together.
Drinking pints and celebrating their success, the group posted on Instagram. The caption read, “We have never been more excited or driven about the future and what lies ahead!”
50 Top Pizza spoke about this Galway restaurant.
They said, “During these past 18 months that have been so challenging for the worldwide restaurant sector, two brothers from Galway have transformed the roadblock of the health crisis into an opportunity.”
The story – the making of The Dough Bros
Founded by two brothers Eugene and Ronan Greaney in 2013 this Galway restaurant has fast become a pizza institution. Thus, it is no surprise they’ve taken the prize for best pizza takeaway in Europe.
In the eight years since they opened the pair have put Irish pizza on the map.
Starting as a pizza cart at the Galway Market, The Dough Bros serve Neapolitan-style wood-fired pizza.
The Dough Bros make their pizzas using the finest of Irish cheeses, charcuterie, and honey. Thus, combining the traditional Italian pizza with a taste of locally sourced ingredients.
Taking to Instagram the brothers said, “We’ve travelled all over the world eating pizza and really don’t see why one of the best pizzerias in the world can’t be in the west of Ireland?
“We have the very best of produce on this beautiful island and believe that someday in the future we can rub shoulders with the very best of em.”
The pizzas – unique and delicious
Serving traditional and inventive pizzas, The Dough Bros have made their mark on the European pizza scene.
Two of their most unique yet delicious pizzas are the Chicken Caesar pizza and the Bánh Mì pizza.
Since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, The Dough Bros have adapted their business model serving DIY pizza. This allows customers to enjoy their delicious pizzas at their own convenience.
50 Top Pizza mentioned these DIY kits at the ceremony. They said, “Even the kits will produce one of the best pizzas in the country.”
On occasion, the Dough Bros have partnered with Guinness to serve cans of the beloved Irish stout with the delicious DIY pizza kits.
