Global travel site Big 7 Travel showed Ireland’s capital some love as Dublin was named amongst their ‘25 best Christmas destinations in the world’.

Christmas in Ireland and across the world is sure to be a bit different this year as celebrations have been brought to a halt due to the Coronavirus pandemic. However, Ireland’s capital is still drawing global attention for its festive cheer.

A list compiled by global travel site Big 7 Travel counts down the top 25 best Christmas destinations in the world and Dublin has made an appearance. When you’re in Dublin at Christmas, be sure to check out the best Christmas markets Dublin has to offer!

Dublin’s festivities – one of the best Christmas destinations in the world

The list is based on a survey of Big 7 Travel’s 1.5 million social audience, as well as data from Pinterest.

Cities were ranked according to their ‘Christmas spirit’, with factors such as history, Christmas markets, decorations, and more determining their place.

Dublin ranked at number 13 in the top 25 with a fittingly positive review to go alongside.

Making mention of the fabulous food and drinks on offer in the capital city, as well as the festive decorations on Dublin’s iconic Grafton Street, Big 7 Travel wrote:

Other contenders – best festive spots

Taking the top spot was Dresden, Germany, who are famed for their iconic German Christmas markets that have spread across the world in recent years.

Other cities that featured on the list included Tokyo, Japan for their winter illuminations; Reykjavik, Iceland for their rugged winter weather and ‘Yuletide Lads’; Honolulu, Hawaii for a tropical Christmas; and London, England for carolers, Christmas markets, and decorations galore.

Other honourable mentions go to New York, U.S.A; Moscow, Russia; Williamsburg, Virginia, U.S.A; North Pole, Alaska; and Rovaniemi, Finland.

A quiet Christmas – cancelled events
