Now, a brand new study has revealed that the Irish capital, Dublin, is the best city to be a student in Europe.
So, whether or not you’re a fan of Normal People looking to study at Trinity College, just like Connell and Marianne, Dublin is worth considering for student life.
Life on campus – a return to in-person teaching
With many students returning to university after over a year of online learning, the campus experience is more important than ever.
This is why the study abroad programme website Studee has compiled a list of the best cities to be a student. If you’re considering moving to a new city for university, this is a must-read.
Looking into factors like the cost of rent, living, and a MacBook, as well as internet speeds, food, safety, and the percentage of young people, Studee came up with a list of the best cities in the world to be a student.
Dublin is the best city to be a student in Europe – and 13th in the world
Splitting their rankings into various categories, Studee revealed that Dublin is the best city to be a student in Europe.
Ranking above cities such as Barcelona, Madrid, and London, the Irish city has lots to offer students.
According to the findings, Dublin hosts over 100,000 students living in the city. Known for its literary history, cultural heritage, and historic architecture, Dublin is a student paradise.
Studee found that the average rent in the Irish capital came in at £1,437.05 (€1702.62) per month. Meanwhile, the average cost of living in the city is £771.05 (€913.54).
With an impressive 89/100 ranking for free speech and the average internet speed coming in at 59 Mbps, students will have plenty of freedom.
Deciding where to study – an important life choice
With Dublin being named the best city to be a student in Europe, we are sure many young adults will choose to study in the city.
Jihna Gavilanes, President at Studee, commented on the findings; “Deciding where to attend university is a big decision where you choose could be your home for many years.
“With so many options available, choosing where to study can feel overwhelming – especially if you’re moving away from home for the first time.
“The things that are important to one student won’t be to another. So, our ranking system uses several factors that actually make a difference to students.”

Gavilanes reflected on the importance of choosing where to spend your college years. She highlighted the impact that can have on your future:
“When choosing where to attend university or college, you need to consider everything that could impact your experience.
“You’re not just choosing where to study; you’re picking the place you will call home and the neighbourhood where you could start your career.
“Your surroundings, the cost of living, and your social life are all factors you should think about before deciding where to enrol. Getting an education can be expensive. So, you must find the right place that works for you for the next few years and beyond.”
