You may know County Donegal for its stunning sandy stretches that make it a picture-perfect holiday destination.

A stunning aerial photo of a Donegal beach has won a prestigious National Geographic competition.

The photograph, taken by Turkish photographer Ozgun Ozdemir, perfectly shows off the beauty of the fantastic beach.

Taken from above, the incredible shot shows the Donegal coastline from a new perspective, and we just can’t stop looking at it!

Judges awarded Ozdemir’s beautiful Donegal beach photo winner in the landscape category of the National Geographic Traveller Photography Competition 2021.

The aerial photograph shows off the perfect contrast between the rolling green Irish countryside, set against the layered sand of Marble Hill Beach and the teal of the ocean hitting the shore.

We always knew that County Donegal was one of the most beautiful corners of the Emerald Isle. But now, this stunning National Geographic competition-winning Donegal beach photo has us even more convinced.

Ozgun Ozdemir is originally from İzmir in Turkey but now lives in Donegal.

Showcasing the beauty of Ireland and the Wild Atlantic Way on social media, the landscape photographer makes us want to explore all the hidden gems the Emerald Isle has to offer.

Ozdemir took to Instagram to announce that his incredible Donegal beach photo won the prestigious National Geographic competition.

He said, “I am delighted to announce that I won the Landscape Category of National Geographic Traveller UK Photography Competition 2021 with my photograph from Marble Hill, Donegal.”

Ozdemir posted the winning photo to Instagram, stating, “It’s like a dream come true.”

National Geographic is a world leader in adventure, science, photography, environment, history, and space exploration.

The annual National Geographic Traveller Photography Competition, now in its tenth year, seeks to “highlight the best in travel photography”.

Capturing once-in-a-lifetime moments and presenting the beauty of the world around us, the competition receives entries from all across the UK and Ireland.

Categories include wildlife, urban, food and travel, people, landscape, and portfolio.

Announcing the beautiful Donegal beach photo as one of the National Geographic competition winners, the judges praised the composition of the shot and its impactful feel.

They said, “The planning and execution of this shot is the most striking aspect.

“The photographer was able to capture a moment to allow us to experience a much deeper view of the landscape. The use of a drone is incredibly impactful, making the stream from land to water feel like a magic spell.”

Runners up included beautiful shots of the Emerald Lake in China’s Qinghai Province and the fantastic Diamond Beach in Iceland.
