People will be happy to learn that Derry’s first African food restaurant has officially opened its doors on Bonds Street in the city.
The idea centred around Sandys African Food Hub is homegrown African vegetables, spices, and recipes. The restaurant focuses on high-quality and tasty cuisine, including dishes from Nigeria and the Caribbean.
The restaurant’s owner, Sandra Nkechi Agoha, is originally from Nigeria and said that she wanted to bring a taste of home to Derry.
She said the menu includes dishes that will appeal to customers from Africa, the Caribbean, and European tastes, too.

Sandra has worked in Derry for ten years. She currently works as a senior nursing assistant for the NHS.
She said, “I have a passion for cooking and caring for people. I have had past experience in similar business from Nigeria which also comes from the family background.
“I was brought up in a family where both parents worked in the hospitality industry and I was lucky enough to always be surrounded by good food, I will give the credit to my parents.
“After good encouragement from family and friends, I decided to open the Sandys African Food Hub. My husband and four kids are so supportive.
“SAFH is allowing me to follow my passion and also provide an avenue to bring a different kind of food culture to the city”.

With dishes like jollof rice, Caribbean rice, Ogbono soup, leaf moi-moi, and fried plantain available, as well as traditional European dishes like fish and chips and burgers, the menu appeals to many tastes.
Sandra said, “We bring a different kind of food culture into the city and if you are looking to taste something different from what you see in the menu, the good news is that you can now enjoy them from the comfort of your own home; Sandy’s African Food Hub is here to have your back.
