One of the most highly anticipated events in Ireland’s festive season line-up is the Galway Christmas Market, which lights up the main square of the Capital of Culture.
With plans being laid down, organisers have confirmed dates for the Galway Christmas Market 2022. They even stated that this year’s event will be bigger and better than ever.
When is Galway Christmas Market 2022 ‒ over a month of festivities
Now, we know it’s only September. However, we firmly believe that it’s never too early to get excited about the festive season. With dark nights and cold weather closing in, we all need some festive cheer to keep our spirits high.
Plus, the iconic Galway Christmas Market is set to take place in less than two months. So, we need to make sure we have enough time to plan our trip to the City of Tribes.
Organisers behind the Galway Christmas Market confirmed the dates for this year’s event to get us all excited. They revealed that the festive stalls and coloured lights will take over Eyre Square from 11 November at 6 pm until 22 December.
What to expect ‒ great food, drinks, and festive cheer
Revealing the dates for the Galway Christmas Market 2022, organisers also explained that this year’s event will be bigger and better than ever.
Those making the trip to Eyre Square can expect over 50 wooden stalls selling everything from food to crafts and more. There will also be a 105 ft (32 m) high Big Wheel, a traditional carousel, and Santa’s Express Train to keep the little ones entertained.
Families can enjoy the brilliant enchanted light gardens, which are the perfect spot to snap a festive photo. Alternatively, little ones can post their letter in Santa’s postbox!
For the grown-ups, there will be the iconic beer tent, live music performances, and more. Plus, this year’s market is also planned to be the first since Christmas 2019 with no COVID-19 restrictions.

Galway city is a major attraction in itself. However, with most tourists choosing to travel the Wild Atlantic Way in summer, the Galway Christmas Market offers a huge winter tourism boost to the area.
Galway Christmas Market 2022 will be the 13th year of the market in the city. It has welcomed thousands of people every year since its inception.
Stalls will be open Monday to Wednesday from 12 pm until 8 pm. Then, from Thursday to Saturday from 10 am until 10 pm. On Sundays, the market will open at 10 am but close at the earlier time of 8 pm.
