Inglorious Basterds and Django Unchained star Christoph Waltz has been making at himself at home in Belfast recently in preparation for shooting the new movie Old Guy.

Action Comedy Old Guy is directed by English producer and director Simon West. West previously directed Con Air starring Nichola Cage, in 1997 and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, starring Angelina Jolie, in 2001.

In the last few weeks, Christoph Waltz has been spotted around town in the lead-up to filming Old Guy.

The movie sees Waltz star as an ageing hitman, Terry Eubanks, who is stuck at the end of his career.

Still believing he’s the best at what he does, Terry is thrilled when The Company pulls him back into the field to train Gen Z newcomer Wihlborg, “a prodigy assassin with an attitude”, as it is described on IMDb.com.

Tasked with eliminating top members of a rival crime syndicate, The Company couldn’t have anticipated the pair striking up an unlikely bond.

The movie is also set to star Cooper Hoffman, Desmond Eastwood, and apparently Lucy Liu. While we are used to seeing Waltz in the more sinister and unnerving roles, this portrayal showcases his versatility.

Yesterday, Waltz was spotted in Belfast city centre. Earlier in the month, the Austrian-German actor was snapped enjoying a meal at The Chubby Cherub on Chichester Street.

A post on social media said, “Attention all foodies and movie buffs. We had a very special guest at our restaurant over the weekend.

“None other than the talented actor Christoph Waltz, known for his unforgettable performances in Spectre and Django Unchained, graced us with his presence”.

Waltz has won two Academy Awards, two Golden Globes, two BAFTA Awards, and two Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Director Simon West said of the film, “It’s very rare that a script like this one comes along. When it does you have to grab it with both hands and don’t let it go until you find your perfect actor.

“I’ve wanted to work with Christoph Waltz for many years. He is one of the most versatile actors working today. I can’t wait to see him create yet another unique and iconic character”.

Highland Film Group CEO, Arianne Fraser, said, “Working with such an incredibly talented actor as two-time Academy Award winner Christoph Waltz is a dream come true.

“He is a phenomenal performer and will brilliantly capture the spirit of the veteran contract killer who forms an unlikely bond with the plucky young upstart”.
