The Marble Arch Caves are normally only open to the public through the summer months. However, this year, for the first time ever, they will welcome visitors throughout December.

The caves are set to host a jam-packed schedule of events in the weeks leading up to Christmas. One of the programme’s highlights is an exciting cave dining experience in the Marble Arch Caves, organised by two local businesses.

For one night only, 16 December, lucky diners will have the chance to enjoy a meal in the unique surroundings. Tullymill Restaurant and Cathy McGovern of Wilde Dining will host diners in one of the incredible chambers of the cave system.

Cathy spoke to MyFermanagh about the upcoming event, which is sure to be a hit with locals.

She said it would be a special experience that diners would struggle to find anywhere else in the world. Similar experiences such as the iconic sea cave restaurant at Grotta Palazzese in Italy have received international acclaim.

“It’s pretty much unique in the world, never mind Fermanagh,” Cathy told MyFermanagh. “We’re basically taking a group of diners down into the cave for a fine dining experience.

“There will be music and a drinks reception as well, so it’s obviously never been done before, and it will be interesting logistically.”

Other festive events taking place – things to look out for

The unique cave dining experience coming to the Marble Arch Caves is only one of a fun, festive programme of events taking place at the attraction in the run-up to Christmas.

The brilliant Christmas Elf Escape will return on 11 December, providing a brilliant family day out. Kids will be tasked with helping Santa find his lost elves.

With the Elf Escape Activity Booklet, they will use the Elf Escape trail map, Elf Report Card, and Christmas puzzles.

Set in the foothills of the incredible Cuilcagh Mountain, the natural environment here is one of the most unique in Northern Ireland.

A visit to the caves is truly fantastic no matter the time of year. However, visiting in the weeks before Christmas adds a unique hint of magic to the day.
