Netflix has got us all excited as they revealed the cast for the new series from Derry Girls creator Lisa McGee late last week. 

The series, titled How To Get To Heaven From Belfast, is a tale of three female friends as they “embark on the most thrilling and terrifying adventure of their lives”.

Something a little different from Derry Girls, we can’t wait to see what Lisa McGee has come up with in this new series.

Thanks to the success of her Channel 4 sitcom set in 1990s Northern Ireland, Lisa McGee has shot to prominence in the global TV production industry. 

Her new comedy-thriller was originally set to go ahead with Channel 4. However, production recently moved to streaming giant Netflix and filming is currently underway in Belfast.

To build anticipation for the series, Netflix announced the lead cast for How To Get To Heaven From Belfast – and it just made us even more excited.

Plenty of local talent – Ireland’s best up-and-coming actors and actresses

According to the announcement, Northern Irish actress Roísín Gallagher, known for her roles in The Dry and The Lovers, will take on one of the lead roles in the new series from Derry Girls creator Lisa McGee.

Starring alongside Gallagher, Sinéad Keenan from Unforgotten, and Caoilfhionn Dunne from Industry will make up the core cast of the series. 

The three women will star as three childhood friends – Saoirse, Robyn, and Dara – who are now in their late 30s. Taking on a thrilling slant, the three women must work to uncover the mystery surrounding the death of a fourth friend.

According to the synopsis, it is a “show about friendship, memory, and what happens when life doesn’t turn out quite like you’d expected.”
