Yes, you read that right! Who needs to hop on a plane when you can enjoy a sunny beach break to County Laois?
As the only doubly landlocked county in Ireland, one local couple has decided to bring a brand new luxury beach resort to County Laois.
The Leinster county may not be the first place you think of when it comes to a sunny beach holiday. However, things are about to change as one couple has decided it’s time for the tourist appeal of County Laois to be recognised.
So, if you’re planning your next Irish staycation, check out this brand new luxury beach resort coming to County Laois.
Pond Beach Resort – an unconventional beach holiday
Yes, we know what you’re thinking. County Laois doesn’t have a coastline. Well, you’re right about that. Still, that hasn’t stopped local couple, Iveta Melgaile and Patrick Bowe, gaining planning permission for a luxury beach resort in the Irish county.
Making the most of what they have, the couple has developed the Pond Beach Resort. Unhindered by Laois’ lack of coastline, the resort will be centred around a pond in Clonmeen North in Errill.
The brand new luxury beach resort in County Laois will feature several glamping pods offering a pondside view in the picturesque Irish midlands.

According to the Laois Nationalist, the Pond Beach Resort will feature three double units and two single units. There will also be a spa treatment centre with a sauna, a barbecue hut, a sports activity area, a fire pit, an outdoor amenity area, and parking.
The self-contained pond-view rooms will also be wheelchair accessible. Two of the five units will accommodate up to six guests. Meanwhile, the remaining two will sleep just two people, perfect for a couple’s getaway.
Guests will even have access to their very own private hot tub, front yard, and barbeque area. Thus, making this the perfect location for a fun family getaway.
According to the couple, the resort will be “surrounded with exotic plants and palm trees as well as a white stone beach with double sun-loungers and large day beds for couples.”
An idyllic Irish escape – cleverly positioned to soak up the sun
County Laois, and Ireland in general, may not come to mind for those seeking a sunny seaside escape. However, Iveta and Patrick have ensured the brand new luxury beach resort coming to County Laois will enjoy the best conditions Ireland has to offer.
They said the resort “has been positioned in a way that the sun catches the beach all day long from sunrise to sunset and will bloom with water lilies”.
The planning application outlines some of the amenities on offer at the Pond Beach Resort. They have placed a strong focus on Irish culture. The application highlights a large pit that will host local musicians and storytellers to keep guests entertained.
There will also be basketball, life-size chess pieces, volleyball, and mini-golf for endless hours of family fun. The couple also plans to create a “Celtic house made of wood, with old-style fireplace for winter evenings with storytellers and Irish music”.
