However, as everywhere, some places are better than others. We have made our rounds in the city and checked out the caffeine scene. See our top places for the best coffee in Galway below. And in case we have missed your favourite, let us know and we will head there for sampling as soon as we can.

Heading to the seaside? Don’t worry about your morning caffeine, Ground + Co. has you covered. One of our top spots for the best coffee in Galway, this cafe just next to the Aquarium in Salthill is a prime location for sipping a cup while gazing at the ocean.

Run by entrepreneur Kevin Nugent, it has become a second home for locals and visitors alike, many of them praising the barista’s skills and coffee selection.

Besides the popular blend, they also have freshly-made treats and cakes and a great-value lunch menu featuring everything from fish and chips to veggie burgers. On a sunny day, we love to get a cup and head straight to the beach.

Shabby-chic Temple Café right by Charlie Byrne’s Bookshop is one of those places everyone seems to know and love – and there’s a reason for it: their coffee blends are some of the best in town, the staff is exceptionally friendly, and the cosy vibe of the place just adds to a wonderful caffeine experience. We especially love their iced coffee!

The Temple Café is determined to make folks value what they eat and drink and their yummy menu mirrors just that. Get some home-made cake, a wholesome sandwich or buckwheat pancakes to go with your coffee.

And if you are vegan, you will surely be delighted to hear that their whole menu is 100% plant-based. Part of their profit goes to local charities, which is a great excuse to come back time and again to this eatery which is steadily earning itself the title of one of the top restaurants in Galway.

They roast all their coffee beans in house, meaning the whole place smells amazing all day long (and you can take home your favourites, too!). Mocha Bean’s blends have won several awards including the gold medal at Blas na HEireann for producing the freshest and best tasting coffee in Ireland.

Besides their signature drink, they are also famous for their breakfast, ranging from the classic Irish feast to smoothie berry bowls, porridge, and vegan granola.

This charming place on Quay Street, easily recognisable by its distinct yellow door, is a local favourite among caffeine junkies and art lovers alike.

The socially-aware business works with a variety of fair-trade international roasters, many of them paying farmers above market value, so you can sip what many call the best coffee in Galway and do good at the same time.

Besides their coffee, we love the artsy vibe at Coffeewerk + Press. The cafe showcases works of some of the best local and international talent in ever-changing little exhibitions – think of it as a mix of cute cafe and art gallery.

No time to sit down? Their adorable take-away cups feature a colourful illustration of the cafe itself and are totally Instagram-worthy!
