The popular restaurant has become a multi-award-winning venue just a few short years after opening.
You may have heard of Bia Rebel, a ramen restaurant located on Ormeau Road. Well, if you haven’t, you will do soon, as this place is souring to success in the world of Asian cuisine.
Just this week, Bia Rebel won a major Asian food award in London. This is just one of the many awards that the restaurant has received to celebrate their success.
Celebrating success – major Asian food award in London for Bia Rebel
Bia Rebel has won the ‘Best Restaurant in Northern Ireland’ award at the Golden Chopsticks Awards in London. The awards celebrate the best of Asian cooking. It’s clear that Bia Rebel is a step above the rest in Northern Ireland.
This is an incredible achievement for the restaurant, having only opened around five years ago.
Humble beginnings – starting off at St George’s Market
Partners Jenny Holland and Brian Connolly are co-owners of the widely-successful business, beginning Bia Rebel in St George’s Market.
Talking to the Irish Times, Donnelly, who is the restaurant’s head chef, said, “We started off on the stall, with £100. […] We’re doing it on our own, we don’t have any backers.
“When we opened this shop I told everybody we employed, ‘I have no money to pay you until we sell something and we should have money at the end of the month to pay you’, and those guys were like, ‘right, okay’.”
Now it seems the gamble has pulled off for the couple.
Just one of many – the latest award to add to Bia Rebel’s collection
Bia Rebel has earned itself many awards over the last while.
But now this major Asian food award in London hailing them ‘The Best Restaurant in Northern Ireland’ has marked the extent of their success since their humble beginnings just half a decade ago.
Donnelly isn’t new to being an award winner, but is ecstatic about their latest win.
Speaking of their incredible success, he explained, “We were only in the shop for a few months before we won the Observer Food Monthly Award for ‘Best in the UK under £15’, that had never been won outside of London before.
“We’ve noticed the appeal that our food has had – we’ve had the Michelin guys in saying how fantastic our noodles are, the Restaurant Association in Ireland, then few local awards. This has been the latest highlight.”
Bia Rebel’s incredible cuisine – what’s on the menu?
It seems that Bia Rebel is one of the most talked about restaurants in Northern Ireland. But what is it about this Asian restaurant that has everyone coming back for more?
Holland explained what the restaurant is all about. “We are definitely a hybrid, we don’t claim to be an authentic Japanese restaurant in any way shape or form,” she said.
As well as serving more traditional ramen dishes, they also have other more unconventional creations. This includes Ramenara, a dish inspired by the classic carbonara.
Tandoori chicken ramen also proved to be a hit last Christmas, which will be making a return this year.
