Belfast Christmas Market confirms return to city this year

The city centre didn’t feel quite the same over the festive season without the staple Dutch pancakes and kangaroo burgers.

The popular Belfast Christmas Market confirms its return to city for this year’s festive season.

The market has become a staple of the festive season in the city, drawing thousands of visitors to the grounds of Belfast City Hall every year, all looking to soak up the Christmas spirit.

However, the COVID-19 pandemic put the world on hold for most of 2020. So, the city lacked much of its festive feel during Christmas 2020.

“We cannot wait to see you all again.”

And we’re sure many locals across the city feel exactly the same way.

The announcement that Belfast Christmas Market will return to the city this year is exactly what we needed. It is sure to brighten our spirits as summer draws to a close.

We’re sad that the nights are getting shorter. However, at least we’ll be able to enjoy a chilly evening all wrapped up in our winter woollies enjoying all the European delicacies on offer.

Maybe you’re a fan of the crowd favourite Dutch pancakes. Or else you prefer the festive filled Yorkshire puddings. Or maybe the divisive kangaroo burger takes your fancy.

Whichever you choose, there’s something for everyone to enjoy at the continental market.

It is estimated that Belfast lost out on around £44m in revenue last Christmas due to the market’s cancellation.

This figure was calculated on an estimated 1.3 million visitors to the market, each spending an average of £34 each.

Thus, it’s not just great news for the Northern Ireland public. Local businesses and the city council will be glad that Belfast Christmas Market confirms its return to the city this year.

Belfast is the sixth most lucrative city in the U.K. for its Christmas Market. It comes just behind Edinburgh, Scotland, which takes in a whopping £88.4m thanks to its festive event.
