We hope you’re hungry because today we’re bringing you the list of places that offer the best breakfasts in Ireland.
Ah, breakfast. The most important meal of the day. We love nothing more than a hearty breakfast filled with bacon, fried eggs, beans, soda bread, mushrooms, and sausage. Oh, and a nice cup of tea to wash it all down.
But you may ask, where are the best places to go for such a meal? It’s understandable if you don’t have the time to cook all this yourself and just want to find somewhere that serves a delicious breakfast.
Thankfully for all of us, the Georgina Campbell Awards have recently announced the best breakfast spots in Ireland. If, like us, you’re partial to a large morning fry or a stack of mouth-watering pancakes, we’ve got you sorted with the best spots to hit up.
This Monday saw the announcement of the winners of the 2020 Georgina Campbell Irish Breakfast Awards, conducted in association with Fáilte Ireland.
Let’s start with Ireland’s best brunch spot, shall we? This award (the only one chosen through a public vote) went to the fantastic Arán Artisan Bakery and Bistro, located in Kilkenny. The popular brunch spot fought off competition from 150 other eateries to scoop up the prize.
Amazingly, the bakery and restaurant only opened last year and has already received this prestigious award. It’ll be fascinating to see where it goes from here.
Runners-up in that category included Seasalt Café and Deli, Cobh, County Cork; Kelly’s Kitchen, Newport, County Mayo; Sweet Geranium Café, Drumshanbo, County Leitrim; and Osta Café and Wine Bar, Sligo.
Best breakfasts in Ireland
The award for best Irish breakfast menu went to the deserving Strand Hotel Limerick for their fantastic spread of delectable food. If you’ve been lucky enough to eat here, you’ll understand exactly why it won.
The award for the best five-star hotel breakfast menu went to Lough Erne Resort in Enniskillen, County Fermanagh. Judges praised Executive Chef Noel McMeel for “an outstanding rendition of the traditional Ulster Fry.” They also described the dining experience found here as one “to savour.”
Avalon House Hotel in Castlecomer, County Kilkenny, received the honour of being the best four-star hotel for breakfast thanks to its “delicious local food” and “high standard of cooking.”
For the three-star venues the “splendid buffet selection” and “tempting display” of freshly baked goods found at the Eccles Hotel and Spa in Glengarriff, County Cork, made sure it took the victory.
Best rashers and sausages
No good fry is complete without some top-quality sausages. If this is what you’re after, then you will want to go to McCarthy’s on Kaanturk in County Cork, as Georgina Campbell has said they make the best breakfast meats in all of Ireland. Fair play.
